This week I had the amazing opportunity of doing work-placement for my entertainment course with wakakirri! it’s like a performance festival for primary school kids.. check out the link if you want to actually know what it is… anyway, I had a great time directing schools around backstage, pulling curtains and many other things.. it was really great, and i learned heaps.

But besides learning stuff about entertainment, this week actually became the best week I’ve had in quite some time. This relates to my post here about getting to know people… I LOVE IT! and this week was definitely an example of that. Driving to Bankstown town-hall Monday morning, I’ve got to admit, I was feeling a little (very) nervous. However, a few minutes after arriving, I discovered that this was an amazing bunch of people I’d come across. Spending about 12 hours there on my first day, I’d already come to love the crew and it was just so awesome getting to know them! I found that spending so long away from my friends and even my family for most of the day, created a sort of alternate life.

Now the week is over, and I’m back to my regular life with my awesome friends and family and school (not so awesome) and it’s strange to think that I might never even see the fantastic people I met again.. quite sad really..

ps. My new word is fantastic :)

yeah i'm on stage, whatever

I was just thinking and…

…I love the process of getting to know someone.

It’s a pretty unique process for everyone you meet.. like I’ve gotten to know people pretty closely in a few weeks. and other people I’ve known for years and I’m still not heaps close with them. But I love that no matter how long you know someone, you can always get to know them better.

I love how people just come into your life and you wonder how you did without them.
I love thinking about how many more people I will be able to get to know in the future. It excites me.

I love listing things I love.
I don’t love having to forget about people and I don’t love study.

Here is a related quote from a nice song:

‘Cause when I looked into your eyes, and you dared to stare right back
You should have said, “Nice to meet you, I’m your other half”

… wasn’t actually an actual comment. It was spam. How disappointing…

And if that wasn’t anticlimactic enough for you, now I have to go study, bye bye nice person (or spamming robot) reading this :)

Answers answers answers…

Right off the bat this post is not going to give you any answers… Now I know what you’re thinking.. “but but.. the title!!!!” yes I suppose it would suggest that this post is about answers but really it is about questions which are far more common. Questions seem to arise easily where as answers are hard to come by. Answers are nice though… right?

I’ll be honest with you reader, right now, I’m writing blind. I don’t have a plan for this post. In fact,  I barely even have an idea. I’m constantly asking myself what I’m going to write next, but I’m still not quite sure.. I suppose if there’s anything written after this, you’ll know that I came up with at least some sort of answer…

It seems that our lives are full of questions. some common ones include…

  • Where did I leave my keys?
  • Where do babies come from?
  • What’s the time?
  • What’s the meaning of life?
  • Did she really love me?
  • Where is God?
  • Why am I reading this?

…and usually we get answers such as…

  • I don’t know.
  • We’ll tell you when you’re older.
  • Time to get a watch.
  • 42.
  • Maybe.
  • Not here.
  • Tell me in the comments? :P

All too often we get answers that don’t answer the question. ANSWERS ANSWERS ANSWERS!… do they exist? You could argue that they do… The keys were in my pocket. Babies, well I’m sure we have a rough idea by now… and the time is 1:43am, at the moment. These are answers right? But what about the more serious questions of life, can we ever find these answers?

There’s a guy I know, who knows a lot of answers. You might even say he knows more answers than questions (*Wow*). Sometimes he seems like he doesn’t know and it feels as if he is far away. But he never left. Usually It’s just because I don’t want to hear the answers and sometimes he wants me to find the answers on my own.

Answers aren’t always nice, they can hurt, sometimes they make us cry.

Am I still going to be Prime Minister?…

Where do you find your answers?

Left or Right?

Far From Home

Earlier today I posted about Kevin Rudd, Australia’s now former Prime Minister, stepping down to be replaced by his deputy, Julia Gillard. As I watched the news reports tonight, which covered the highlights of the day included K Rudd’s speech, what struck me in particular was passion and emotion with which this man spoke. Here he was, standing before the nation barely holding it together. A friend from my church talks about the moment he came to become a christian, he broke down in tears, “loosing his man points”… How many man points did Rudd loose today?.. but I don’t feel this is something to laughed at.. I feel this was a very appropriate and sincere response to the end of a time in his life that he had poured EVERYTHING into. Rudd may not have been the perfect leader, but he clearly devoted everything he was to his role. He was freaking passionate!

This is the kind of person I really want to be. Not the politician side.. (that would kill me) but in my life to just be truly passionate and devoted to everything that I do.

Rudd’s probably feeling pretty lost as so suddenly his whole life was turned upside down and I think we really need to remember his great achievements making Australia’s first official appology to the native inhabitants of this land. This is what he should be remembered for as it is such a great thing. As I was writing this I was reminded of a nice song called Far From Home by the Classic Crime. I love this song, it’s definitely one of my favourites. I love how the song is intensely passionate in how it’s sung, how it’s played and it’s lyrics. It is a perfect song, for me. Go check it out :)

Quotes rock my world

So I was doing this English assignment, which involves making a poster/collage type thing by finding quotes and pictures from a website about the September 11 terrorist attacks (real year 12 work!). It’s actually a little enjoyable, which is a nice change, because it involves being a little creative, which is nice. As I was scouring the website, looking through mediocre stories about how someone remembers waking up to the beautiful weather (seriously 9 out of 10 start with this) and turning on the TV to see horrible events taking place on the other end of the screen.. I came across a one written by a rescue worker who shared the memorable images he saw that day and in the days following. One of these images struck me,

“One day someone found a heart lying on a piece of metal. Somebody’s heart… all by itself”

Wow! I find this to be such a powerful image. Something that should be comparable to the photo of the falling man. It not only encompasses the sheer horror of the day but it is the juxtaposition of something so fragile as a heart sitting on a piece of metal, designed to be incredibly strong. And then you could go on to say that this represents the human spirit prevailing of the disaster.. or something like that. I love how little things in life just happen, how does someone’s heart manage to get there on its own?! Blows my mind. Blows my mind that an image created by chance, someone’s heart randomly finding its way onto a piece of metal, could create such a powerful image that represents such an horrific event so perfectly……..

If you want to you can check out the rest of the story here, it’s quite interesting! http://911digitalarchive.org/smithsonian/details/6845

And also I’d like to make a shoutout to my mega awesome photographically nice friend Rachel who’s blog is right here http://rachiesaycheese.wordpress.com/ and you should go check it out :)

Creativity

One of the reasons I decided to create a blog (yes it was a big decision) was because it allows me to be relatively creative not only what I can post but how my page looks (I will be making my own style at some point.. so stay tuned :)… Ever since I was a kid I’ve been designing websites, one I worked on for a while was ‘Comic, Inc.’ which I actually had a look around for and I actually found it!!

http://comicinc.bravehost.com/home.html if you want to check it out (it’s kinda lol)

And I guess it was this that led me to fall in love with myspace.. -well, not literally in love.. im not that much of a creepy nerd- but i just loved how much freedom was given, I could pretty much re-design the whole thing and make it look exactly how I wanted. It was nice. (this is of course overlooking all the crummy aspects of myspace, such as the fact that it’s just so horribly designed)

But as it seems with a lot of good things, they must come to an end and myspace became a ghost town as everyone migrated all of a sudden to myspace’s cleaner, modern and BROING-ER counterpart, facebook… Facebook is great, don’t get me wrong, I love a good, clean website with great features that allows me to keep in touch with my friends. But besides choosing your display picture, there is NOTHING else you can do to make your profile your own. As a christian, I see our ability to create things as a gift from God – we are made in the image of God, who created all things (that’s pretty freaking creative) and he’s given us that ability and that’s really why I love being creative ’cause I feel so connected to God. It makes me sad that this opportunity for people to be creative has been totally lost.

Recently I’ve been trying find ways of being a bit more creative with my facebook profile, and so far I’ve found a nice little app which sits in a tab up the top of my profile. This app is pretty much an html sandbox which is freaking awesome! So far I’ve managed to re-create a sort of myspace design on my facebook profile, it even has music. I’m pretty excited..

If you’re interested in doing this yourself, the app is Profile Box. All you need is some html code (you could pretty much just copy the code from your actual myspace profile) and then just add the Profile Box tab to your facebook profile.

PeacePeace!
